Children's Talent Competition

BOSTON SPA METHODIST CHURCH – WHO HAS TALENT?

Saturday afternoon saw the climax of a Children’s Talent Competition organised by Gordon Hurren, at Boston Spa Methodist Church, with prizes and certificates presented by the Reverend Susan Greenhart, assisted by Judith England.   Categories included performing  arts, photography, cooking  and craft. Alarna Payling, Joan Dyer, Judith and Peter Hoyle were the judges who had an incredibly difficult task due to the high standards of exhibits and performances.  All children were awarded certificates and all won prizes.

The afternoon performances commenced with a duet from Lily Thompson and Zara Kennedy, with Lily also playing her guitar. It was a confident performance warmly received by the audience.   The first prize, a gift voucher, was awarded to Alicia Fletcher for her brilliant rendition of “Baltimore” from “Hairspray” which was performed with such confidence and passion.  The second prize was awarded to twins Holly and Conner Jakeman who both danced individually and then together, in matching costumes, performed the Oompa Loompa dance from “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.  Both twins demonstrated a range of styles including tap and acrobatic dance to a high level of competence.  Max Stephens played “Everybody Shout” brilliantly on the piano and without the aid of sheet music. He also won the photographic competition with four stunning photos entitled “Secrets of Boston Spa”.   Aditya Chakrabarty, Anna Kilvington and Bailey Kitchen won prizes for photography, with well chosen topics.  Verity Ranby entered her beautiful hand -made clay bowl and Ellen Sherratt exhibited a carefully drawn charcoal picture.

The afternoon concluded with excellent refreshments provided by ladies from the Methodist Church whilst the judges deliberated on the results.
