 Words and Music






Margaret Jowett trained at the NorthernTheatre School,

under the

 direction of the much respected actress, the late Esme Church.

After touring with a children's theatre company, she worked as a stage director and actress in northern repertory companies, followed by personnel work in retail and industry.She founded and ran for 27 years her own "Speech and Drama Workshop ", whilst teaching speech and drama at Leeds Girls 'High School and appearing on YTV.

Her tuition has equipped many young people with invaluable skills for both theatre and other professions.

Margaret is a member of Equity, The Society of Teachers of Speech and Drama, still teaches and is a Tour Guide at Ripley Castle., where she can also be seen in costumed presentations, " The Ladies of Ripley "

She directs plays , hosts concerts and Dickens Workshops in schools.She is a regular Guest Reader in London for the Esterhazy Singers and performs in the Bar Convent, York.

Margaret hosts Serendipity which she and Kathy started in 2003.

Kathy White was born in Grimsby and ,aged 8, commenced singing lessons with Dorothy King.As her voice developed she became a valued member of several local choirs., frequently singing solos and ,as soon as she was able to audition,became a member of the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Amateur Operatic Society.

From her teens she enjoyed entertaining with her father, singing solos and duets at various local venues.

On moving to Leeds in 1988  Kathy joined Heaingley Amateur Operatic Society and Wetherby Light Music Singers whils continuing her studies with well-known singer and teacher, Margaret Lucas.

She has also sung with Leeds Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

In 1993 Kathy formed a quartet called "Limelight ", who entertain groups with songs from the shows, operetta and light popular music. They also provide music for functions such as birthdays, weddings , anniversaries etc.

As a founder member of Serendipity, Kathy's extensive repertoire can be heard in the popular programmes of " words and music" performed in surroundings such as Stately Homes, Masonic Ballrooms and many other venues around  Yorkshire.

Linda Hinchliffe was born in Leeds and began piano lessons aged 4. She completed her studies at London College of

Music under the direction of William Lloyd Webber gaining two diplomas and a degree in 1975.

At present, Linda is working for Leeds Education Artforms as a peripatetic pianist ,

part-time teacher and accompanist.

She is also accompanist for Leeds Youth Opera and assistant MD for

Heckmondwike Players.

Linda has been accompanist for Serendipity since its formation in 2003.

However, because of the high demands on her time she is not often seen "live" at our performances, but is heard through our sound system.
