BRIAN OXBERRY

IN

'A CHRISTMAS CAROL'

Brian Oxberry has been performing in one form or another for more than 60 years. For 43 years he played and sang with The Foresters, a York based folk band.  In 1991 he joined the York Branch of the Dickens Fellowship and with others (including Margaret Jowett) performed extracts from the works of Dickens around Yorkshire.

As time passed, readers retired or left the area but Brian continued on his own, bringing the works of Dickens to W.I.s, U3A’s, Village committees and hotel guests. Before Christmas 2020 he performed an ‘A Christmas Carol’ marathon; that was 100 performances in 26.2 days, to raise money for Hospice UK. He eventually raised over £2500. His fee today will be donated to Martin House Hospice.

In addition to extracts from Dickens’ novels, Brian also gives talks on Dickens’s Women, Dickens’s Children, Crime and Punishment in the 19th century, Prostitution in the 19th century, particularly  York and Wilkie Collins.

He hopes that you will enjoy his performance of ‘A Christmas Carol’
